My husband and I have followed Mimi to this place. We’ve been using Mimi for a couple of years now. She is fantastic! I’ve never had any ‘tip’ issues with her but we do tip at least $20. These masseuse work very hard and the 1 hour full body massage for $45 is extremely inexpensive in comparison to spas and are much better.
I would agree that this place looks skeptical from the outside, except for the over head sign ‘Therapeutic Massage, you wouldn’t even know it’s there but don’t let the lack of aesthetics deter you.
I’ve only gone to Mimi so I highly recommend her. I have her cell phone on speed dial

I’ve been here 4 times, and never had anyone demand a tip or be rude to me (I always tip at least $20, though). The woman at the front desk has always been jolly, and I have yet to make an appointment- I’ve always just walked in and they had someone to see me.
Great massages- very firm pressure, therapists use their knees and elbows, good stretching. The last one did end with the weird hard slapping routine someone else mentioned (the others didn’t), but other than that, awesome service for the price. (And the rooms are actually kept warm, which is a huge deal for me as I get cold super easily.)
Not a fancy spa, but cheap, skilled, pleasant, and crazy convenient. It’s become my go-to time-waster when I’m trying to wait out bridge traffic back to the city.

Giving Coral 5 stars, I was in so much pain last night. Coral did a good job I didn’t know I was still that flexible. I’m going to treat myself once a week much needed acupressure.

I got an excellent massage here from Lucy two days ago and still feel great! This is a clean and comfortable place for an excellent and affordable therapeutic massage. I am a long-time customer and have found all the massage providers to be professional and polite. I go here regularly as part of my health regimen and to get relief from chronic low back syndrome, which flares up occasionally when I am under stress. The providers are skilled in Chinese acupressure, which has been very effective for me. My favorite massage provider here is Lucy, who though petite is very strong, giving a hard, deep tissue massage as needed, relieving tension and aches and pains in my muscles and joints. I always feel rejuvenated after her massage. – Michael

Unlike many massage parlors, Theraputic Massage Center El Cerrito delivers a quality, and professional healing touch, at an affordable price. I have been going here for years, and I have never had a bad experience, In San Francisco, where such services are regularly mislabeled and customers are consistently ripped off by so called ‘high-end,’ spas, it is nice to know that there is a reputable and reasonable massage parlor that can be visited when you really need to heal. Thank you Theraputic Massage Center.

I think they offer a nice massage. I try to visit once a month when possible. I have never felt pressured to leave a large tip. They normally work out my many kinks in my back and I feel like a new person when I leave. I hope to continue my services here as I feel they have earned my customer loyalty.

My boyfriend and I visit here about twice a month – $100 + tip puts us in another place. Judy generally works on me and provides a massage as good as any I’ve ever had, from San Francisco to Sedona.
It does seem, perhaps, “bare bones” and impersonal at first but, at this point , Anna, who runs the place, knows us well and greets us like friends. They know that we like to use the steam sauna before our massages and always have it on for us. And actually, I rather prefer their initial distance – this is a real experience and you won’t be lulled into some false sense of relation with anyone here because they’re trying to make money off of you. You will get a great massage.
I have never been pressured into giving a tip but yes, I do feel that 20% or more is expected and obligatory considering the very inexpensive cost ($50) and the fact that they have to deal with your nekid bod in whatever condition it may be; hard, soft, stinky, heavily-perfumed, acne-ridden, dry or withered.

Great spot. Very professional but my therapist, as noted in a prior review, just stopped! She said, ‘one hour’, though her english was bad, nearly demanding a $10.00, 20% tip. (No bad english here).
All and all an exceptional, inexpensive massage for an anthlete, though very impersonal. Although didn’t like the ending when she slaps the hell out of your body……kind of like, get up, get out, give me my tip.

Yes, this place totally looks shady from the outside. And yes, I was still a little skeptical even once I was inside. Once they lead you into the back, it gets less shady, and looks more like any massage/acupuncture place. I paid $35 for a very intense 30 minute massage for my aching neck and upper back. The woman masseuse I had was very strong and nice, alebeit a little chatty for my liking. It’s especially hard when I’m trying to relax so she can really break up some knots in my back and I have to try very hard to understand what she’s saying. She kept complimenting me on my hair

I’ve been using Therapeutic Massage for several years. The place is no- frills, so if you are looking for a fancy spa experience, this is not for you. But if you are looking for a deep, therapeutic massage to get out all those stress-induced knots, look no further. The price is right, and it’s always pretty easy to get an appointment. The therapists aren’t real proficient with the English language, but they are very professional and proficient in their work.

I get regular massage and have tried many different places around the East Bay, and this is one of the few places I keep coming back to.
The massages are consistently good no matter which massage therapist you see, I have always found the people friendly, and I have never been pressured about the tip, just thanked — and being pressured to leave a bigger tip is probably the #1 reason I often won’t return to a place (on principle; you shouldn’t have a certain amount “demanded”).
I would recommend this place to anyone, as it’s affordable, professional, and has excellent massage therapists, as well as a free shower and “sauna” (steam) upon request.
