I’m a guy that has his back “go out” because he doesn’t stretch and strengthen his core as much as he should.
I use Chiro monthly for adjustments but I wanted to try something different.
A few trainers at my gym have had good results with Colin Miller, so I thought what have I got to loose?
– “except what did they say about it’s going to be painful?”
Different is called IMS – the idea is that the needles will stimulate or reset muscles that are tight or not functioning to full potential as well as improve blood flow.
I believe that it worked in my case.
I saw improved range of motion for sure.
I didn’t think IMS was all that bad, until Colin got my calf muscles. I can’t even let my wife or daughter tickle my calfs without screaming and thrashing away.
Super glad I held it together over the 3 treatments I’ve had. That could have been embarrassing.
As for the pain after treatment. It’s not too bad – like a good workout after missing a few months of activity. Sore muscles. I was able to continue bike commuting and only missed 1 day of classes at the gym.
Oh,
I should also mention that the needles were front & back all over my body – working from mid back to low calf – about 20 to 30 spots each treatment give or take.
This is not acupuncture folks.
What did Colin call it again?? … “an athlete’s tune up”
I thought it sounded better than “a dad bod tune up” so I went for it!
I’ll say this in conclusion…
If you’ve had trouble with pain in the past and nothing seems to work. I’d suggest visiting Colin to see if he’s able to help you.
I’m still working on doing my part to keep my back pain free because I’m sure help from people like Colin is just part of the solution of staying healthy and pain free. In most cases, I’d bet that if you think one visit or a few treatments is going to “cure” you… you might not get what you think.
At least my calfs aren’t as ticklish as the used to be

Being referred to this place was a game changer..
I have been seeing Colin Miller for some IMS treatments and it literally changed my life for the better. I was on disability for two years with brutal neck and back pain. Plenty of issues from bone and disc degeneration, spinal stenosis and more. This has fixed me. My quality of life is improved 110%. Do yourself a favor, and book and appointment!

I came here for the very first time one year ago when I tore a muscle in my inner knee from a sports injury. Jason Lee is AMAZING. I went from not being able to put any weight on my right knee, let alone walk, to being able to stumble around in no time. I did IMS treatment (very painful but works!!) and some ultrasound along with getting some exercises to strengthen.
One year later, I went for a revisit because things are starting to act up again. It felt like no time had passed by and I was just there last month. Jason is very friendly, understanding and patient. He goes thru all the exercises with you and explains what each does and what you’re trying to accomplish. The receptionist is always friendly as well. I love that they have an online booking system which makes it very easy for me to find appointments that work for me.

Sport & Spinal came highly recommended by several people and I was lucky enough to get an appointment to see Colin, (thanks to a last minute cancellation). I’m a mother of three young children and I walked into Sport & Spinal in tremendous pain and feeling defeated, having been told elsewhere that my injury was serious and I would not be able to use my arm/shoulder for at least a month! (For a full time mom, that is just impossible) After ONE, (aggressive & intense) treatment I woke up the next day with easily 50% more mobility and almost no pain. A week later I have full mobility. I cannot say enough about Colin. For me, it felt like nothing short of a miracle, though it’s clear that for Colin it’s about years and years of perfecting his art and having the intuition to know what’s best for his patients. Will recommend him to anyone and everyone!

My experience with this clinic has be exceptionally positive. I came in two weeks ago with a shoulder injury. I could barely raise my arm over my head. Literally, one week of following instructions for movements has improved my mobility immensely. I’m slowly back practicing yoga and am on the path to recovery! I highly recommend asking for Dr. Jason Lee. A big shout out to him for supporting my health and wellness. I’m grateful and appreciative for his help!

Please be advised that my review is completely out of my own personal thoughts and feelings from my own experience at Sport & Spinal and may not reflect what is the usual practise or what you may encounter at your visit.
I went into Sport & Spinal with upper back tension and pain due to some prescription medication causing my muscles to seize up in my back. From the get go, Colin knew what was bothering me once I started telling him how my doctor started me on this new prescription medication that got me really wired within 2 days of taking it. He was able to finish my sentence and was able to identify the symptoms without even placing a hand on me. I was really impressed and I remain so today.
The reason why my visit amounts to a 1 star is because immediately once I laid down on the physicians bed, adjustments or cracks were made to my neck and spine without any notice to me. I did not realize I needed them so you could imagine how surprised I was to hear my neck and spine being cracked. I was told, however, to wrap my arms around me and to be in a certain position when he did this. I was also told that the neck adjustment was something I needed for a long time.
He then assessed my back and asked if I wanted the pain to go away that day. I asked if that was possible and he told me yes and went and grabbed his instruments (his dry needling/IMS needles). I jokingly asked him if it would hurt when he came back and he told me that there would be some discomfort, and that only the muscles that are unhealthy will hurt. He then proceeded to needle me in various parts of my upper, lower back, spinal area, neck, and in the base of my skull. I was in a lot of pain and was sniffling as he was needling every single point. After the IMS needling was done, he proceeded to place what he described as ‘equivalent to 30 massage machine’ pads on my back, shoulder, and arm, and told me to relax for awhile. I was told when I was leaving that I would be very sore, as if I had an intense workout, and that if my upper back/shoulders continued to hurt in a few days, I needed to return for more treatment.
I left with my arm so sore and my back in so much pain that my range of motion was decreased and my left arm could not hold up my handbag. I got on the westcoast train and was in so much pain sitting that I was almost in tears coming home.
I tried to go do my usual fitness class two days after the session and found that I could not do a single thing I use to be able to do (planks. squats, sit ups, push ups, and light weights) and did not have any strength in my upper body. Mind you, I was not told to avoid any exercise or to do any exercises after my session other than to take a soak with epsom salts.
Within a few days of my session, the soreness wore off and I started having intense pain in my upper and lower back, base of my skull, neck. and there would be loud cracking noises whenever I turned my head and rolled my shoulders. I could no longer sit at my desk job without having intense pain and strain by lunch time.
I ended up going to another physiotherapist 2 weeks later that told me that the treatment I received, while may be accurate in the long run, was way too aggressive for someone who has never received physiotherapy and most likely created additional pain for me. My doctor has now prescribed me anti-inflammatory pain medication for the daily pain and I use a heat patch on my neck and back during the day so that I can carry on my daily tasks. I went to a massage therapist a week after my painful session with Sport & Spinal and was told that I had very dark bruising on my left side from where the massage pads were placed and multiple knots in my back. She thought the bruising was from cupping therapy and was surprised that it was from physiotherapy instead.
So while I understand that Sport & Spinal has great reviews online and has helped a lot of individuals with their different symptoms, I believe it may not be for me who have had no physiotherapy before or was not aware of what kind of therapy is available from a physiotherapist. My upper back/shoulder tension/strain became much much worse that now requires adjustments to be made at my work (a raised up desk, and spinal cushion chair), heat to be used almost 24/7, massage therapy, accupuncture, prescription medication, and another physiotherapists care.
I recommend anyone unfamiliar with what therapy physiotherapists can do to first read up on the different techniques, and to ask lots of questions. Also, if adjustments are not your thing – speak up and tell them! I, unfortunately, was not given notice with what was going to be done and is now faced with a lot more treatment for the next while to correct this.
I was very reluctant to post my review due to the volume of positive 5 stars that Sport & Spinal has received and I’m sure that everyone’s visit is different, however, mine was unfortunately not and I don’t think I will be returning to Sport & Spin

I saw Tony Macri at the Sport + Spinal clinic in Yaletown as I was searching for a physiotherapist with experience and FCAMPT training to address an ongoing issue. I have seen him 3 times and so far he has been able to assess, explain the issue, and treat it very efficiently. It allowed me to not have issues in my work at the same time as giving me exercises and techniques which will help me prevent the issues going further. I plan to continue to see him to continue to improve things as well as deal with other issues I am having. I do not hesitate to recommend Tony to anyone looking for a great physiotherapist

I have been suffering from chronic back pain for the last 3-4 years and nothing seemed to do the trick. After going from physio to physio I was exhausted and thought nothing would work — until I came to sport and spinal!!
After only 3 sessions with Collin Miller I am almost fully improved. Amazing that he could do for me in 3 sessions what nobody could in 3+ years! Collin is a great physio and along with the helpful treatment, he takes time with you and there is no rush at all.
I would highly recommend seeing Collin if you truly want to get better!
