I had an incredible experience at this spa. The staff are excellent, and the massage was even better The decor in the spa is just amazing, and really helps to create a relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back

Absolutely excellent! It was my first massage, and I was a little uncertain about starting with a Thai massage (and selecting a male masseuse) BUT I regret absolutely nothing! The massage was so good, and Anton was very experienced and diligent.
I checked in, and was treated to water or tea. After filling in a consent form, I was led to the massage quarter by Anton. It was a mattress on the ground with some pillows, with some see through curtains offering limited privacy. There were dimmed and colourful lights, with some groovy exotic background music.
I was given a T-shirt and some loose drawstring pants to change, and then Anton walked me through the process. He told me to relax all my muscles – to not resist nor help him in my movements – and that he’d start from the bottom and move upwards.
The massage lasted for an hour, and it was the right balance of intensity and comfort. Some parts were of stronger pressure, but when the massage ended, I was so relaxed that I was near asleep!
I loved the experience, and will definitely return!

Thank you so much for taking the time to right this review. It means so much to our team to get it right and I have passed on your kind words to Anton. Hope to see you again soon

This is a 4.5 (the last major point below will explain why). I did a walk-in 90-minute massage with a senior practitioner – Phil. The front desk was really friendly, all about the details, efficient and accommodating with giving me an appointment right away. The warm tea was also really relaxing.
The massage area is set up into different blocks separated by curtains. During your massage you are conscious of the noises of people walking in, and the little slices across the back that are not necessarily your own. The music was a bit distracting in a weird way – shifting from yogi music to trance to jazz. I would have preferred the same type of music all the way through. You are set up close to the floor with comfortable pillows. Temperature was fine. Everything was clean. You change into a t-shirt and a pair Thai pants they provide you.
As all the reviews prior mention, Thai massages are a different experience. It’s really rather a frenetic experience, and I wouldn’t really say it’s relaxing at all. You are stretched and pulled every which way. You try to anticipate the next movement, but you almost have to force yourself to let go. I wouldn’t let myself relax too much and so the practitioner had to tell me a few times not to “help him” with the movement. The whole 90 minutes is really high intensity on all your pressure points and I found myself gritting my teeth a few times. I had noted medium pressure on my form; I am not really sure how much I would have squirmed if it was actually deep pressure. I also remembered not liking the sometimes skin on skin friction that occurs since there’s no lotion involved.
I think Thai massages are an acquired taste like coffee, wine, beer. I think I can do one every so often but not all the time. Otherwise, very lovely place with nice people just up the road. Pricing was not outrageous.

I have been looking for an authentic Thai massage place in the city for a while and I can happily say I found a great one! Having tried several traditional Thai massages in Thailand (and Thai-run spas in Europe), Bahn Thai is up there with the best. The moment you walk in, the smell of lemongrass, relaxing music, and traditional Thai décor make you feel like you’ve landed on the other side of the world.
As others have mentioned, this is not a luxury-spa atmosphere. Massages are done in a large room with curtains separating each individual area. You are on a large cushion/mat on the floor, rather than up on a table like most Western spas. But all the elements for a good massage are there and the customer service is friendly and warm. You don’t need a lot of frills to relax! I know some people don’t like the shared room because of noise, but when I visited it was very quiet.
They have water/tea when you arrive. Then you will be given a t-shirt and loose fisherman-style pants to wear for the massage. I also brought socks because my feet get cold easily! Read up on thai massage so that you aren’t surprised. There is no oil used and you will be in different positions (sitting, lying) and the therapist will maneuver your limbs around in different ways — it’s like having yoga done TO you, and it’s great!
My 90 minutes massage with Danielle was great. She varied the pressure and got into all the right spots in my ache-y muscles. She also read the health questionnaire before and asked me a few questions. (My pet peeve is when spas ask you fill out a health questionnaire and then it is clear that nobody ever looked at it!). I do recommend the 90 mins. if you can. I always find 60 mins. for Thai massage goes by really fast, and if doing that length, I would just pick a couple areas to focus on.
You get a little bag of Epsom salts to use in the bath when you get home.
The online booking system is easy to use. They do require a credit card to hold the appointment time. Pricing is fair. There is a range of prices depending on the practitioner’s seniority/experience level, which makes a lot of sense to me.
They also run courses if you want to learn how to do Thai massage.

If you are a fan of traditional massage, you will love Thai massage. This spa in particular has high quality and well trained therapists. The massages are done fully clothed and are more like supported and dynamic stretching yet have an element of deep tissue massage as well. Enjoy lemon grass tea as you check in and prepare.

Went for a 90 minute traditional Thai massage with hot compression today and it was great. Definitely different from your usual experience at a spa such as Elmwood or Ritz.
The massage had a lot of stretching involved to relief tension and knots. It was a good experience and relaxing massage.
The downside was that it was in a room divided by curtains. There was privacy but no noise isolation which means when people are chatting even whispering or snoring you hear everything. This makes it difficult to relax and not be distracted.
At the end of the massage they give you a small bag of lemongrass epsom salt for a bath to end the day. It was a nice gesture from the spa to wrap up the massage.
I am glad I tried it but probably won’t go back.

Wonderful experience! It was my first thai massage and I had no idea what to expect. The therapists walked us through everything and made us feel very comfortable. The massage was great! I felt so stretched and relaxed after. I went in with lower back tightness and the massage really helped. Loved the tea they give you too and the overall relaxed and calming vibe. My massage therapist was so sweet and passionate about what she does.

This place is absolutely amazing.
My boyfriend, his mom and I went last week. It was so incredible that I booked another hour long massage with Heather for this week before I head back to the states. Highly recommend Heather, but from talking to my friends everyone here has had an incredible experience. Thai massages are really unique and I feel as though I’ll never go back to a regular massage!
The studio is comfortable, clean and very zen. The little touches go a long way. Can’t recommend it enough!

I cannot say enough positive things about the folks at Bahn Thai – in fact, I went twice in my single week in Toronto! They are accommodating, kind and communicative. The in-house infrared sauna is wonderful for detox. My massage was out of this world and had me moving body parts again that I forgot existed. My masseuse was so determined to encourage my healing that she taught me a meditation practice at the end! I left with a satchel of lemongrass Epsom salts – which was divine! This is not just a massage studio – it’s a place for healing, and you can feel the deep passion for healing seeping out of this place’s pores! It is NOT a fancy spa – but it IS a place for healing. Hint: Research “traditional Thai spas” before you go so you know what to expect! Because you will be wearing pajamas and on the floor. 🙂

This was by far my favourite massage and I will definitely be back. So much more therapeutic then a regular massage. I left feeling fantastic. Thank you!

Decided to opt for the 2-hour massage with Orachan as I was having shoulder and knee pain. The price tag is appropriately high and includes a sauna/shower, tea, changing into loose Thai clothing for the massage. I love a deep massage and this was nothing short of amazing. Orachan immediately zeroed in on the source of the pain and I could feel my body realigning as she worked me over from toes to head. Took a hot bath at home with the supplied bath salts and feel so much better today. I can’t recommend her and this beautifully appointed spa. I’m going back!
